I’m On A Roll

I learned how to knit a scarf when I was about 12.  My dad showed me how, I guess he had learned from his mom.  Maybe on one of those dark and cold farm nights where the stars smother the sky and a country boys one wish would be to have some  wooly socks to keep the toes warm.  Honestly, I can’t imagine why dad learned to knit but that’s just a thought.  Needless to say, I never really kept going with it.  Until this week when my Aunty Kathleen and friends headed to Stony Plain, Alberta to learn how to make a Swirly Scarf. First stop, Pam’s Woolly Shoppe.  Look how cute the sheep are on her store front.

When I walked in, I was amazed at the kaleidoscope of color.  It’s like a box of Crayola crayons exploded every where.  Naturally, I gravitated to the color combo that included aqua (duh). The needles you use are really fat, so this project just flew along.

There’s all kinds of inspiration around Pam’s shop.  I spotted these little jackets, oh sooooo cute.  I would absolutely wear this (in my own size of course)!  I had a hard time leaving behind this sweet aqua bag with sheep on it.

If you live in the area, make sure you stop for lunch at ‘The Alberta Multicultural Heritage Center’, you won’t be able to resist their homemade pies.  The Lemon Meringue was monstrous.  We ate on the patio amongst their cottage garden. El fresco as they say over there (? somewhere).

There’s also a very interesting ‘General Store’ next door with Antiques, handmade crafts, vintage toys and candy.

Well, I’m pretty tickled with the results.  I love the sparkle of the Silver thread and of course the colors.  If I can do it, you sure can too. I bought enough yarn for one more scarf. Better get at it, I’m on a roll.
