Warm & Cozy, Just Like Your Favorite Fall Sweater

The brightest, nicest days are often in September. I can finally enjoy the great outdoors without the exhausting heat of summer, I love that! Mornings are crisper,  the days begin to shorten.  It might be my favorite time of year.

“By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.”
–   Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885

As a kid, September meant heading back to school. Renewing friendships and if you were lucky, getting new clothes (probably at Woolco, remember them?).  Read the small print, that says 1969, YIKES!

Families seem to move a lot more often these days. Perhaps for work or just to get a bigger, better house. Aren’t houses getting huge? I grew up in the 60’s. In a neighbourhood where families owned their homes for 20 years at a time.  You made life long friends and everyone knew their neighbors.

The Gemmell family lived across our lane.  I could go out our back door and into theirs.  I must have done that thousands of times because I was there a lot.  As kids, Deb and I walked to school together with other friends in the hood. We played on the same sports teams. It was a simple schedule, softball in the summer, basketball in the winter. We had the crazy ‘sleep’ overs and enjoyed endless hours of board games on the lawn. Do kids still play board games?

As adults, there’s been weddings, babies, divorces, moves and all that life brings your way. Yet we’ve always been able to keep in touch and pick up where we last left off when ever we get together. Deb’s the same girl I grew up with, how many gramma’s do you know are doing this:

This weekend, I’m making a trek out to British Columbia to their beautiful home on Lower Arrow Lake.  If you ever find yourself in the  West Kootenay’s, please stop and say hi to Deb & hubby Lorne at their business, Scotties Marina. They’re just a 10 minute drive from Castlegar, British Columbia . Arrow lake covers some 140 miles and includes approximately 30 waterfalls.  This pristine and un-crowded mountain lake area is a haven for fishing, hiking, rv’ing and boating. Can you imagine waking up to this every morning? Beautiful!

Look’s action packed right? I’m looking forward to a great visit, catching up on family news, meeting her new puppy, a few rounds of golf and maybe laughing about how funny we looked in our old school pictures. I don’t think they’ll get Boomdee on a surfboard in a bikini, but never say never, ha!

Some friendships just get better with age. Warm and cozy,  just like your favorite fall sweater.

Lucky me, I have a dedicated craft room and currently on the Cut File Team for Paige Taylor Evans. I mostly enjoy making 12x12 layouts and Mini Albums. Thanks so much for coming by 💛

  1. I bet you’re having the time of your life. Friendships like that are priceless. I loved seeing you and Deb in grade school together. And Deb, if you are reading this, way to rock the surfboard. Wow!

Bomdee, did you really pack for a weekend in that tiny, albeit adorable suitcase?

Talk nerdy to me………..
