Remembrance

A number of countries, including Canada, USA, Britain and Australia mark an official day of Remembrance on November 11th. In Edmonton, an amazing Lego display was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge ** and to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday.

It was pretty impressive, including a vast undulating landscape.

This Lego landscape depicts a 250 acre park surrounding the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France that was preserved from the former battlefield.

I was amazed by the Lego RCMP, Scout Troup’s and Military Personnel. Each one seemed to have a unique personality, including hair, eye glasses and smiles.

I thought it was pretty amazing and a cool way to engage the youngest viewers in the history of our country. What kid doesn’t love Lego?  Last year marked Canada’s 150th Birthday.  I’m very privileged to be a Canadian and have the kind of balanced leadership I feel we have and thankful for the men and woman who serve and sacrifice. We have much to Celebrate!

  1. That is an extraordinary tribute to Canada’s 150 and to the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy. I used to have a book from LegoLand (the original is in Denmark). Some of the models take up to two years to plan and build. I’m so glad you got to see this, and hope many others do as well.

    As for Trudeau, I’m a huge fan. I’ll always be true to my Canadian roots. Love you.

    1. Hey honey! I can’t imagine building a Lego for 2 years. I’d have to have a side project too. I’m a big Trudeau fan too but as I was telling Cindy earlier, there’s a lot of Albertans who are too conservative for his ‘sunny ways’. You probably haven’t seen his acceptance speech on election night, but he said that he would govern with empathy and care for others and used the term ‘sunny ways’. I’m always surprised when people hold his good looks against him. Like it’s detrimental to his job. What’s looks got to do with politics? Like ‘only ugly guys need apply’ ? That’s sexist! There’s been plenty of long serving, ‘non-handsome’ men both Liberals and Conservatives (your Democrats and Republicans). If kind, articulate and genuine are liabilities to a mans leadership, then some people need an attitude update. I’m with the young crowd, time for change. I rarely agree with many in my own demographic, they generally want things to stay the same. I’m a Justin fan too and I love you too 😀 Take that to the bank, nay sayers LOL!

  2. That is one amazing Lego work. Wow. And a copy of the Vimy Ridge memorial. It’s something else. So many war memorials. I like the idea of honoring those who fought–and portraying them with various Lego people. But will we ever learn? Probably not. Where there are humans there will, eventually, be conflict. But there will be love too, so one hopes we can overcome that way. The colors in this are vibrant. The green is sooooooo green.

    1. You’re so right about the human mentality. We are basically animals to some degree. Advanced in some ways but not all ways. I’m a great believer that if more women were in power, there would be far less conflicts between countries. I don’t believe any mother wants to see her child go to war. “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing that there’s just too little of”. Remember that song? It came out in 65′ and it still rings true. xo K

    1. Thanks for visiting Lavinia. It impressed me for the size really. You can’t tell by the photo’s but it was curated within a very large glass enclosure. I can’t imagine how many Lego’s were used. I hope a lot of families were able to take their wee ones to see it and learn about the sacrifice of so many. x Boomdee

Like any Nation, we are not without our embarrassments and apologies’ to the most deserving people can take decades.     1. Too many of these conflicts, right then, when will mankind learn. If there is anyone watching from afar, they much think, “such a hostile race”. But then hopefully they’d find us here at WordPress and breath a sigh of relief. We’re just a bunch of pussycats here 😀 ha! Cheers Boomdee

    1. Hello sweet Marlenie-bean! There were a lot of special events to celebrate our 150th Birthday through out Canada last year and it’s one reason Mr B and I took the train trip to the coast. There are pro’s and con’s in every country and you can’t please all of the people, all of the time but the American administration is off the rails and I’m so sorry for ya’ all. I can see why you feel as you do. Honestly, I wouldn’t trade places. Believe me, things are not perfect in any community but I think, on a whole, Canadians are far more liberal socially and and that’s where my political and social allegiance lies. Your daughter has picked a beautiful country. It’s one of the safest countries to travel too. It’s so so far for you though. xo K

    1. I remember my nefews collecting all sorts of Lego sets. All pretty cool. They weren’t a big thing when I was a kid. I think we had what was called Mechano. Consisted of wooden wheels with holes for wooden sticks. Good grief I am getting up there, LOL. This display was huge. I wish they’d included the story about the construction and how many Lego’s were used. Thanks for visiting friends ! x K

    1. Hi Cindy! Can you imagine, there are Canadians that grumble about Trudeau? Yep, there are many conservatives (your republicans) that take exception to his leadership. I find him to be personable and sensible with the welfare of all Canadians at heart. I think, from what I’ve seen, he’s a good daddy and in love with his wife which scores big points with me. I think complaining Canadians need only look south of the boarder to thank their lucky stars. We actually had a Federal Conservative Government for many, many years. His name was Steven Harper. Very secretive and the personality of a toaster. Lot’s of conservative people want policy that favours their own personal bank accounts, they’ll do anything to keep it that way, even if it’s to the detriment of the planet (regarding Alberta oil). It’s not me, I’m a fish out of water here. Thanks for coming by x K

  9. We have President envy here in the U.S. – if you ever get tired of Trudeau, please send him on down. Very cool lego structure, I have been to a Lego store at Mall of America where everything in the store is made of legos, including the cash register!

    1. Hi Karen! I know there are some in Canada who don’t like Trudeau, but I’m a big fan and voted for him too. Some people want to think the grass was greener in the past . I’m a very progressive and liberal thinker. I think if I were American, I’d have an ulcer by now! For real 😦 45 makes me sick to my stomach. That Lego store sounds fun!
