Those stereo types don’t greet you in Sydney, Australia. It’s a big, shiny, modern city with lot’s of attractions for awestruck traveler’s. Mr B and I called Sydney home for almost two weeks. After a pretty long flight from Canada (15 hours from Vancouver), we arrived to the iconic sites of Sydney Harbour.
I took these photo’s from the Harvest Club on the 30th floor of our hotel, just a few blocks from the harbour, or Circle Quay (pronounced – key). Book the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney with ‘the Horizon Club package’ to enjoy beautiful breakfasts, afternoon tea (or wine) and cocktail hours. The club host’s are extremely pleasant and the selection of food, snacks, wine, coffees and teas are plentiful, tasty and expertly crafted.

Of course the views from the club are primo!
When will you ever have breakfast with this kind of view? Can you see the Sydney Opera House past my knoggin’ ? WOW hey?
There’s lot’s to do in ‘The Rocks’ area too. There’s plenty of restaurant’s, lovely little unique shops or easily walk to George St if you’re into shopping posh shops, urban style. I enjoyed a weekend market with beautiful handcrafted items (what I found, in the next post). It happens in The Rocks every Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
It’s great to be near Circle Quay. Here, you can catch a water taxi to many points around Sydney, board a cruise ship, visit the iconic Opera House or just stroll in the sunshine.
I actual avoid the sun with a big hat and generous cotton scarf….blah, blah, I’m too white….blah, blah, I live in northern Canada and it never gets this hot 😀 These sun bathers at Bondi Beach weren’t the least bit concerned though. Apparently, a typical weekend for these Aussie’s.
Speaking of weekends, have an awesome one. I have so much to share in the next few posts. Where I hope to give you “the flavour of Sydney” !

Thank you Lavinia! We really did. I loved Sydney. It’s very cosmopolitan but with a casual air. Lot’s of people off to the beach or water for the day so lot’s of flip flops and beach bags. I found everyone to be very polite and friendly too x K

Hello, hello AC! Thanks so much for coming along. There’s so much to share, I really don’t know where to start. What a great problem to have,ha! The Shangri-La is in a really awesome location. It’s only 1/2 block to the foot entrance to the Sydney Bridge too. We felt spoilt for sure. Another good part of the Horizon club, it ensures you a room in a higher floor and then less noise and great views. Have you ever been to Australia? x Boomdee

Hello dearest! Yes for sure, a lifetime of sites and fun in 5 weeks. I went off to NZ after Australia to holiday with Alys, Laurie and Pauline. I’m happy the postcard arrived, such a long trip for a little card. It’s a little tradition for me when I travel to send a few. Thank you for those cuddles Charley, they are awesome 😉 xo ❤ K

Hi Karen! It was an action packed trip for this homebody. Those hats were so so cute. The gal made them with her mom. Unfortunately, they were for little girls and boys and really small. You’d no doubt had climbed the bridge. We didn’t but did walk out the the middle to take photo’s. It’s really windy out there 😀 x K

Hi Wilma! Thanks for cheering us on. It was pretty spectacular. Every day was a new adventure. One that may never be again, so we did as much as we could. These photo’s are basically day 1 and 2…..omgosh, I will be blogging till Christmas, hahaha. Hello sweetheart! We sure did ‘live it up’ LOL. We spoilt ourselves rotten. Alas, back to reality. The first thing I cooked when I got home was a frozen pizza, LOL There were no decandent deserts, just a yougart cup with whip cream on top. We don’t even put it into a bowl 😀 We’re more friendly than fancy 😀
I saw this gals handy work and zoomed right in, thinking as you do, they were soooooo me. Unfortunately, they were for little girls. She’d probably make me one in my size if I wanted, but I think I remember someone at our local market with really cute hats as well. Thank you so much for visiting xo K

Hello Hello Vonderfrau ! Those deserts were a killer 😀 Good thing they were all miniature because the calories really add up 😀 The open markets were fun. Each vendor was so friendly. I had great long chats with many and it took a good part of the day to get through them all. It was hard to decide what I could bring home 😀 Jim and I travel well together . We like early dinners, quiet nights at the hotel, mid-day wine breaks and the water. He’s a good sport about restuarant selections since I’m vegetarian and he’s not. Plus he tends to be very well organized, which I’m not. I’m the one who misses flights on a 3 hour layover……. oh yah, good times, good times, LOL xo ❤ Thanks for visiting dahling (that's our new thing) ! You have to say it with a NZ accent. 😀

You tickle me, dahling! I’ve almost missed a flight out of San Jose when I realized I was at the wrong gate and my plane was loading at another gate. Just wasting time waiting at the wrong place. 😦 It’s good to have a partner that blends well, not necessarily is a perfect match. That would be no fun at all. Hi Clowie! Back now since last Saturday, but I feel like I’m just getting up to speed. Holidays are far busier than my home life. Home life is quiet and slow paced. Sydney, BIG and busy. Hello Miss Pauline ! Certainly it’s much different holidaying somewhere than livinng there. Jim and I both again, Sydney is a beautiful city to visit but we couldn’t live there. Soooooo many people and traffic. Luckily, where we were staying is a little enclave of calmness with quiet streets during the day. You know when you came to America and the best part of the holiday was our visit to quaint and quiet Radford? That’s how I’d compare NZ and Sydney. DC is spectacular with tons of Iconic destinations. But the best times are times spent with friends. xo K

Look at that gorgeous view. I’m with you on remaining pale white at all costs. Two bouts with skin cancer keeps me covered up whenever possible. I love the look of a nice tan on those who can get one, but knowing its skin damage does take the edge off the appeal. We’re about to run an errand, but I wanted to say hi. Looking forward to future posts. xo

Hi honey! The views do take your breath away and there is something about visiting these iconic sites thats seem a bit surreal. I mostly loved being on the water. Those were my favourite days. As far as big cities go, I’d say the area we choose to stay in, The Rocks, was perfect for us. Some of the tours we did also stopped at other hotels for pickups and most were on super busy streets. Everyone was lovely and friendly too. There’s very much a British feel to Sydney which is lovely and somewhat familar to Canadians. Hope your outing was a success! If only those flights could be reduced in duration. And you, poor thing, had it far worse than I did. I’m glad you enjoyed your time on the water.
