Did someone say white?

This was my view February 3, 2018, just before Mr B and I left for Australia. I thought I’d take a few pictures to show my pals in New Zealand. I’m not sure I ever did because once you leave winter behind, you forget about it pretty quickly 😀


Welcome back to the Boomdee Travel Log !

When last you visited, Mr B and I, had just checked into our hotel in Sydney. Did you enjoy the views? We sure did! It’s a bit of a change going from -30 C to +30 C overnight ! Just three airports, 17.5 hours and 13,290 km later, LOL

We had a couple of days to explore the beautiful city before our excursions to fabulous sanctuary’s and mountain parks began.  Naturally I was eager to visit, what I consider, the most iconic site in Sydney, The Sydney Harbour and Opera House.

We photographed her beauty from every angle, sea to shore, on walks and on waves.  It’s like a child opening up a great Christmas gift every single time. Here’s a view you might not see in a travel magazine. I took it aboard a ferry on our way to Manly Beach.

Pish, posh!  I wasn’t at all ok with just seeing the outside. So to the Symphony we did go!  It was a dark and stormy night!  Literally 😀

But how fun to hide out from the deluge under her amble sail ! I’ll never forget it ❤

Once inside, we found our seats and to my surprise, they were awesome. We’d only booked the tickets the night before, so took what was available, ‘behind the stage’.

Honestly, I’ve never been this close to the music!!  Travel tip: I actually think these are the best seats in the house. Sitting here, gives you a dead-on view of the Maestro while he frantically waves his wand in every direction and strategically points at select musicians when it’s their turn to contribute to the magic.  His hair was mesmerizing as it flew back and forth with the music of Mozart!

No photo’s are allowed during the actual performances but I couldn’t help but think of Bugs Bunny, LOL ! 

“Hello ! It’s the 60’s calling, time to grow up”. Tee-hee 😀

After the Symphony, you’re treated to the night lights in Sydney Harbour. Everything glows, included ferry’s and yachts casually floating by. Just everyday life for the locals, but we were mesmerized.

Needless to say, the evening was completely magical. Well, for me anyways. Poor Mr B was some tired and I could see his eye lids struggling a few times. So sorry hon, but when will we ever again, have the chance to hear Mozart from within these big beautiful sails?

    1. Bonjour ma petite pomme française 😀 Yes so memorable! Bugs Bunny was loaded with symphony music and is my earliest recollection of the classics. Do you remember Bugs being The Barber of Seville cartoon ?He makes fruit salad on Elmer Fud’s head, LOL ! The look on Bugs face still cracks me up. Kind of looked like the hubster that night, LOL xo

        1. They were, weren’t they? Pauline mentioned she didn’t watch because they were too violent. She’s totally right actually, but funny, we didn’t think they were. Everything’s so innocent when you’re a kid. xK

    1. No kidding hey? They should call the seats, “up close and personal” ! I was looking out at the front seating, rows 1 to about 4, when we arrived. I said to my hubby, that the angle they look up at is far less advantageous than our own seats. Those seats probably only see the musicians from the waist up and the cost of attending was no doubt quite a bit more. I’d certainly consider behind the stage again. 😀 Thanks for visiting Cupcake and G! ❤ xK

    1. Hello hello my dear! Wowie kazowie, I really got behind here, there and everywhere. Thank you so much for your message and for ‘tagging’ along. Just yesterday, I watched an episode of ‘House Hunters International’ on TV. A couple searched for a house in Sydney. It was fun to see all the sights again. It’s just one of those places that photo’s can’t do justice. The Opera House is certainly a jewel in the harbour. Why can’t we build all structures with this poetic grace? xo K

      1. I’ve been having a couple of weeks like that too, where I feel utterly behind in ALL areas of my life. But how fun that you got to “revisit” Sydney on TV (even if seeing a favorite haunt on TV never quite does it justice …). As for your question: I don’t know why all architecture can’t be so visually stunning — but I suppose we need *some* boring square brick buildings to help us appreciate masterpieces like the Opera House. Anyway … happy catching up, and welcome home once again! xx

    1. Thanks so much for your message and visit Karen. It seems like eons ago now but thank goodness for photo’s that keep the memories fresh. I’ve gone to listen to Beethoven’s 7th again. Yes, so very beautiful. I could easily fill my day with heavenly music from so many talented orchestras’ . Such a shame for those who never venture a listen to the classic’s. I think even Lady Gaga must have a favourite given her Italian and French Canadian roots 😀

  8. You actually got to hear the symphony play!! How exciting for you at least. Sounds like Mr B was too tired to be astounded. 🙂 Memories you will have all your life. Much better view than all that snow. It doesn’t seem to let up there. There are no sweet black kitties in NZ waiting for you though. Bet they were happy to see you. Hugs.

    1. Hi Marlenie-bean! You’re so sweet to know how much I missed my kitties. Lordy, I was so homesick. Yes, poor ol’ Mr B, I certainly stretched the limited that night. We were recovering from our flight. But when in Rome, Carpe Diem and all the usual cliches, LOL Buy memories, not stuff! We are working on it, one destination at a time. Love you honey xo K

  9. You had a magical time there – and no, we didn’t get to see the photos of the snow you left behind. Well, I didn’t anyway. It was a huge change in temperature for you, I’m glad it was a little mellower here 🙂 I think it would be a wonderful adventure to watch the maestro from the seats you had, I’ve never done that. I’m a Mozart fan, my favourite is his Requiem in D Minor – the whole thing 🙂

    1. Well you seen one snow pile you’ve seen them all! HA I loved the temps in New Zealand. I could very well manage them year round. While we get winter, it’s usually bright and sunny. There’s just no heat involved. We’re actually having a very late and cold Spring.
      Do you have a symphony in Dunedin? I love many classics but for Mozart, I enjoy the Clarinet Concerto in A. I imagine a little bird flying along one day: tree to tree, up, down, all around and then meets up with another birdie. After a few suspicious moments, they decide to be friends and chase each other happily through the sunshine. Did you watch Bugs Bunny when the girls were little? There’s lots of symphony music in their cartoons. Maybe that’s where I learned to enjoy it and imagine stories with the music 😀 Maestro was very entertaining albeit dramatic. I don’t really get what they do. It would appear anyone with a stick could do it too, LOL Obviously not, but the nuance of each movement escapes me 😀 xox Love and Hugs k

My two favourite instruments are the clarinet and the cello and I tend to be attracted to any music featuring them 🙂 No, I didn’t see too many BB cartoons, I never liked the violence 😀 I discovered opera in my mid twenties at a particularly traumatic period and it spoke to me and I moved from there into classical music – it was never around when I was a kid. I do understand what the conductors do – I learned about that somewhere along the line and I also got to compare some of them playing the same music through a friend who was very knowledgeable. The music we listen to at a concert would be a bit hit and miss without a good stick waver!! 😀 Dunedin is too small to have its own symphony – in fact there is only one in the whole country. I haven’t been to a concert in a million years!! Your seats and the venue and the music – you are very blessed ❤ xoxo

        1. How awesome to have a friend that was so knowlegable about music and the actions of maestro. I found the idea of listening to one piece of music, conducted by different Maestro’s very interesting. I’ll have to check that out. Maybe on YouTube.
          You’re actually right about BB being violent. I never noticed it much as a kid. A different time and different sensibilities I suppose. I grew up with Saturday Mornings being cartoon time. Like most families of the day, we had just one TV in our household. So we all had to watch the same channel. Bugs bunny was a different time.
          I am very blessed in so many ways. x K

    1. We loved the area we stayed in for sure. Less busy and close to our favourite things. The harbour, the views and restaurants. Everyone was super friendly and I enjoyed a weekend market….blog to follow 😀 Cheers dear!

  11. Wow! Great photos and I loved the video. I have always wondered about those stage seats!!! I think it’s a bit like being ushered into the choir for a service at a cathedral. it sounds great. I hope you and Mr. B have recovered from the travails of travel. Nice to hear your voice in print and video.

    1. Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for coming to the Opera House with me 😀 Next time you’re going to the symphony, you might want to venture behind the stage. I thought it was awesome. It is kind of a choir view ! We really enjoyed the Harbour. There’s music buskers, ferry connections to beaches and you can easily walk to the sites from there. I’ve been home for a bit and have managed to get organized again. Or as organized as I usually get, LOL. x K
